[Exhibition Introduction]
This exhibition is a flagship global cultural project led by the Greek government, bringing together the core archaeological discoveries from 14 Greek cultural and museum institutions. It features 270 rare artifacts carefully selected from the Neolithic Age to the Hellenistic Period (approx. 6800 BC – 31 BC). As a cultural gift celebrating the sister-city relationship between Shanghai and Athens, the exhibition is jointly presented by the World Expo Museum, the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, Hunan Museum, Nanjing Museum, and Capital Museum. Through archaeological evidence, it offers a panoramic recreation of 7,000 years of ancient Greek civilization.
How does a sweeping history of ancient Greece measure the origins of European culture?
Breaking away from traditional narratives of civilization, this exhibition focuses on the vivid histories of individual lives, inviting you to encounter the key communities that shaped Europe’s cultural DNA.
The exhibition centers on "human" beginning in the Neolithic Age and concluding in the Hellenistic Period, using captivating narratives of ancient Greeks to vividly illuminate the splendor of Greek civilization.
When Europe’s earliest farmers sowed their first grains of wheat, when Aegean sails cut through the morning mist of the Bronze Age,when the Olympic flame first ignited the glory of the arena, when Greek culture met the camel bells of the Eastern Silk Road—Now, this legacy journeys from the shores of the Mediterranean to the banks of the Huangpu River, where it will resonate in the gaze of Eastern audiences as a timeless symphony of"mutual learning among civilizations"!
All exhibits are officially authenticated by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, bringing together treasured archaeological discoveries from 14 Greek cultural institutions. This unprecedented showcase features numerous excavation masterpieces from Greece, now making their first large-scale appearance in China after traveling across continents to the World Expo Museum in Shanghai.
With the exhibition countdown underway, Chinese and Greek curatorial teams are currently engaged in intensive installation work at the museum to prepare for this grand cultural event.
