The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) is delivering this week a capacity building training session for government ministries, public entities and higher education institutions in Turkmenistan.

Dedicated to the BIE, the organisation of Expos and planning a successful national participation in these mega-events, this week’s training session forms part of a longstanding cooperation programme between the BIE and the Government of Turkmenistan that dates back to the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2015.

The three-day training programme, being delivered remotely on 16-18 November, is organised in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Turkmenistan in France. Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, the Secretary General of the BIE, delivered opening remarks, alongside Dovletgeldi Rejepov, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, and His Excellency Shohrat Jumayev, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to France.BIE training sessions delivered to Turkmenistan officials.

Over 30 officials representing five ministries of Turkmenistan as well as government agencies, state entities, and business organisations, are participating in the training, as well as student groups from universities in Turkmenistan. Eight dedicated sessions are being delivered by BIE officials, with the topics covered including an introduction to the BIE, the process of organising an Expo, and the communication and technical aspects of participating in Expos. The opportunities and benefits of hosting Expos and participating in these global events is also addressed.

The capacity building programme is a BIE initiative aimed at supporting its 169 Member States and notably at providing countries with additional knowledge and specific technical know-how regarding participation in Expos and the organisation of Expos. The aim of this programme is to support the engagement of Member States in Expos and in the workings of the BIE, therefore fostering the best possible conditions for Expos to serve as attractive and effective platforms for multilateral cooperation, public diplomacy and the education of the public.

Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the BIE stated:“This training session is the latest in a series of initiatives that strengthen the close cooperation between the BIE and Turkmenistan. I am very pleased that Turkmenistan is giving the BIE the opportunity to share its experience and expertise in organising and participating in Expos.”

Turkmenistan has participated in Expos since Specialised Expo 1993 in Daejeon, and has had a presence at all World and Specialised Expos since 2010. In 2012, Turkmenistan joined the BIE in order to strengthen its involvement in the BIE and Expos.TwitterShare
